Times of Refreshing

Content

Times of Refreshing is the second part of the Way of The Spirit Bible reading course. It covers the story of God's kingdom on earth, how after it was lost in Eden, God set about recreating it through the people of Israel, how he established its work in Christ, and how the early apostles carried the good news out to the rest of the world.

The books of the Bible you will be studying are therefore mainly the historical ones that tell about the growth of the kingdom, plus some of Paul's letters:

  • • Old Testament: Joshua, Judges, 1 & 2 Samuel, 1 & 2 Kings, 1 & 2 Chronicles.
  • • New Testament: Matthew, Acts, Galatians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Corinthians.

The main themes of this study are kingdom-building and Church-growth, vision and faith, disobedience and decline, repentance and revival, Jesus as Servant, King and Messiah.

Course materials

The following materials are available for each of the four sections of the course:

• A Workbook.

The workbook contains the passages to read, one per day, and questions for you to answer on each passage. There is a Review question each week to help you discern what God is saying to you and to apply it to your life. You will need the workbook to complete the course.

• A Reading Guide.

The reading guide provides a commentary on the bible passages to be studied, giving valuable background information, chronologies and so on. It forms a valuable resource to support the workbook, but is not essential for you to complete the course.

• Recorded teaching.

Short 20 minute talks are available, one for each week of study. The teaching is recommended but not essential to completing the course.
