Heirs of the Prophets

Content

Heirs of the Prophets is the third part of the Way of The Spirit Bible reading course. It covers the history and teaching of the prophets from the time of Samuel on, tracing the part they played in Israel's revivals, studying their warnings of judgment, examining their vision of the future, and seeing how their hope and experience came alive again in Christ's ministry and the life of the early Church.

The books of the Bible you will be studying are therefore mainly historical and prophetical ones, plus selected passages from Acts and Paul's letters.

  • • Old Testament: 1 Samuel - 2 Kings, Isaiah - Malachi.
  • • New Testament: Luke, Acts, Corinthians, Revelation.

The main themes of this study are prophecy and revival, judgment and repentance, vision and hope, the work of the Spirit, Jesus as Prophet and the Church as charismatic.

Course materials

The following materials are available for each of the four sections of the course:

• A Workbook.

The workbook contains the passages to read, one per day, and questions for you to answer on each passage. There is a Review question each week to help you discern what God is saying to you and to apply it to your life. You will need the workbook to complete the course.

• A Reading Guide.

The reading guide provides a commentary on the bible passages to be studied, giving valuable background information, chronologies and so on. It forms a valuable resource to support the workbook, but is not essential for you to complete the course.

• Recorded teaching.

Short 20 minute talks are available, one for each week of study. The teaching is recommended but not essential to completing the course.
